Unlock mauritian cooking secrets with our head chef at La Maison D’Été Hotel

Posted on: 22 December 2023 Written by: Newmark Hotels & Reserves

Tranquility, white sandy beaches, and crystal-clear waters await at La Maison D’Été Hotel, a Newmark Hotel & Reserves’ property situated in Post Lafayette, Mauritius. Match this with local flavours and intriguing aromas of island cuisine, and you have a match made in heaven.

Guests staying at La Maison D’Été Hotel are invited to join us on a weekly local market tour followed by a cooking lesson.

Culinary Journey with Our Chef

Once a week, we invite La Maison D’Ete guests to join us on a trip to the local Mauritian markets where they can get a feel of our island culture, chat to the locals and select fresh ingredients from the markets themselves.

When you arrive back at the hotel you will be greeted by the head chef and invited to join a cooking lesson. Here you can learn about popular local spices and flavours and how to prepare them in authentic Mauritian style. Cooking stations are set up for guests to immerse themselves in the experience and cook up a dish under the chef’s supervision.

Prime Location Near Port Louis

Post Lafayette is on the southeast coast of Mauritius, and our beach is known for its untamed, rustic beauty with wild waves and borders of volcanic rock. The windy conditions are ideal for kitesurfing and windsurfing. It’s a part of Mauritius that is yet undiscovered by mass tourism, offering you a secluded, peaceful island paradise.

Post Lafayette is also only a 35-minute drive from Port Louis, one of the major fishing villages in Mauritius where guests can visit the local markets. When you book a stay at La Maison D’Été Hotel, you have easy access to local attractions as well as Port Louis and Grand Baaie.

The Wonders of Mauritian Cuisine

Mauritian food is an exotic yet interesting mix of Indian, African, Chinese and European cuisine, so expect some familiar and some new taste bud sensations, from doll puri to biryani and sweet pastries. Mauritians love chilli, so prepare for spiciness whether its street food or gourmet dining.

Some of the Creole favourites are Rougaille, a classic Mauritian dish with a tomato base and a rich mix of onions, garlic, ginger, thyme, chilli, coriander and curry leaves, and an ‘upside-down’ dish called Bol Renversé, consisting of stir-fried veggies, rice, seafood or meat, and topped with a fried egg. This inviting ensemble is then flipped over onto a plate before serving.

Satisfy your craving for delicious food and endless relaxation. Book your stay now at La Maison D’Été Hotel with Newmark Hotels & Reserves and experience our authentic local cooking lessons teaching you to create dishes that burst with the local flavour that are unique to this idyllic part of the world.
