Tour the Wild South of Mauritius when you stay at La Maison D’Ete

Posted on: 25 October 2023 Written by: Newmark Hotels & Reserves

While Mauritius is known for its glistening beaches, the captivating island also has an intriguing side to it, coloured by history and local culture. This is the preserved south of Mauritius, also known as ‘the wild side’. Newmark Hotels invites you to discover these unique attractions when you visit our signature Mauritius hotel, La Maison D'Ete.

What the Island Has to Offer

From breathtaking cliffs to waves, sugar cane fields, ancient buildings and lush vegetation, the wild south of Mauritius is a haven for nature lovers. The region also contains remnants left behind by explorers of the past.

In the 19th-century village of Mahebourg, you will see the lagoon where the famous naval battle of 1810 took place. Its location, Vieux Grand Port, is inscribed on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. The village also houses the Naval Museum, filled with artefacts, and the 150-meter-long Cavendish Bridge, which was built in 1911 and restored in 2011.

Blue Bay Marine Park is a protected marine park along a sandy beach where you can go snorkelling to witness the aquatic flora and fauna, or take a ride on a glass bottom boat
