Fine wine, hospitality & sustainable luxury intertwine at The Hazendal

The Hazendal is one of the newest luxury destinations in the Newmark Hotels & Reserves portfolio and is making strides in sustainable development throughout the property. A family-owned wine estate, it’s set in the Bottleary Hills of the Cape Winelands region, offering an exquisite, eco-conscious experience for the discerning traveller.
Smart Solutions Because Every Drop Counts
Given Africa’s water scarcity, Hazendal Wine Estate has implemented its very own sustainable water project to reuse and recycle water for use at the hotel and on the estate. Thanks to the owners, a state-of-the-art filtration system sources and purifies water from the farm’s boreholes and reservoirs.
Wastewater is also purified and recycled for irrigation, keeping the lush vegetation healthy and hydrated in an eco-friendly way without depleting the earth’s precious source of water.
Solar Farm, Hybrid Cars and More
In a similar spirit of saving natural resources, the Hazendal Estate is making strides in using renewable energy for its power generation and even transport. A solar farm has already been installed with over 700 solar panels, and The Hazendal’s roof has been built to accommodate even more solar panels for energy efficiency.
Hazendal Estate’s General Manager, Carly de Jong, said they have a long-term goal to be entirely self-sufficient when it comes to electricity, and it seems they are well on their way. There are also electric vehicle charging points alongside the Classic Car Pavilion on the estate.
Recycling Initiatives at Hazendal
Of course, no sustainability project would be complete without attention to recycling, and the Hazendal Estate definitely makes an impact with its purpose-built refuse centre dedicated to separating and sorting solid waste for recycling.
You will hardly find single-use plastic on the estate, as all packaging, such as coffee cups and straws, is 100% biodegradable. All fresh produce used on the estate’s restaurants is grown onsite or sourced locally, keeping carbon emissions at a minimum.
Now, guests can stay and dine guilt-free at The Hazendal, knowing that mindfulness is at the heart of this icon of Cape hospitality.
Discover a world where environmental awareness is put into action to create a harmonious blend of sustainability and leisure in a tranquil setting. Book your stay at The Hazendal with Newmark Hotels & Reserves.
