Celebrate Heritage Month in a Luxurious Historical Setting

September is Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the diverse cultural tapestry that weaves our nation together! The Dock House Boutique Hotel offers a wonderful setting from which to experience Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, a pinnacle of South Africa’s heritage.
A Journey Back In Time
The Mother City’s V&A Waterfront dates back to the discovery of gold and diamonds between 1860 and 1920 when a harbour and refreshment station were needed for ships of the Dutch East India Company. In 1988, the V&A Waterfront was established by state-owned Transnet Limited. The Victoria Wharf Shopping Center soon opened, followed by hotels, a food court, the Blue Shed Craft Market, Two Oceans Aquarium and a string of other attractions. Now under new ownership and home to some of the country’s finest hotels, the V&A Waterfront is a must-see for any traveller wanting to appreciate our rich heritage.
Also part of this narrative, the Time Ball Tower in Cape Town stands as a beacon of our heritage. It was built as a signalling device in 1894 and was used to allow the captains of passing ships to test their chronometers. The city’s maritime history is embodied in this intriguing icon.
Unveiling a Cultural Haven
The Dock House Boutique Hotel lies adjacent to the Time Ball Tower and used to be the harbour engineer’s private residence back in the 1800s. It still contains some of the original breathtaking chandeliers and its ornate ceilings transport you to its historical beginnings. Even though the house was refurbished, many of its original elements are still visible.
This September, we invite you to experience a harmonious blend of luxury and tradition at this Victorian-style hotel. The classic rooms adorned with intricate artefacts narrate tales of yesteryear, where history and refined living converge. Three of the upstairs rooms have views of the V&A Waterfront, while the ground floor Luxury Suite opens onto a manicured garden and a swimming pool. Book one of five rooms or book the entire hotel for exclusive use and enjoy private access to the hotel dining room for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Heritage-Inspired Experiences
The Dock House Boutique Hotel provides breakfasts that pay homage to our rich heritage. Our world-class chefs have curated a menu showcasing the vibrant flavours of South Africa. For lunch and dinner, venture down to the V&A Waterfront for a variety of local dining options. Dock House guests are invited to breakfast at Dash or Ginja at no extra cost when you book a bed and breakfast stay.
The Waterfront, now the oldest working harbour in the southern hemisphere, is also home to the Zietz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa and the Cape Town Diamond Museum in the Clock Tower District. From the waterfront, you can embark on a tour of Table Mountain or Robben Island or hop on board the Jolly Roger Pirate boat for a cruise.
