Nestled in the northern part of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, Buhoma holds the distinction of being Uganda’s most renowned and historic trailhead for mountain gorilla trekking. This sector pioneered gorilla trekking in Uganda, famously hosting the first group of trekkers in 1993 when the Mubare gorilla family was opened for trekking.
Guests at Gorilla Heights can embark on an unforgettable adventure by walking through the forest directly from the lodge, a scenic two-hour journey to Buhoma. This sector is home to seven unique gorilla families, offering an intimate and enriching experience with these magnificent creatures.
The gorilla trekking experience is led daily, at a maximum number of eight persons per family, per day. These expeditions take place over approximately seven hours.
NOTE:
Participants must be 15 years or older to participate in the gorilla trekking experience.
Participants are not allowed to interact with the gorillas but must maintain a minimum distance of 10 metres between themselves and the gorillas. A full briefing will be given by the guides before the outing.
