About Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga, which means “place where the sun rises”, is situated on the eastern side of South Africa and is one of the country’s nine provinces. It is home to a diverse range of fauna and flora which makes it a remarkable destination. World-famous attractions such as the Kruger National Park, Pilgrim’s Rest, the Blyde River Canyon and God’s Window are all located in this region.

The province is divided longitudinally into the Highveld, on the west, and the Lowveld, on the right. The Highveld is typically cooler than the Lowveld and experiences frosty winters whereas the Lowveld region has a subtropical climate, with milder winters. Summer brings rainfall and refreshing thunderstorms to the region.

We chose Nkomazi at Komati Tented Camp to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was a wonderful experience in so many regards. The luxury tented accommodation was beautifully appointed, the bed was very comfortable and the outdoor shower and bath, as well as the plunge pool added to the "close to nature" experience. The rooms are very private and it's hard to believe you're so deep in nature and have all that luxury at your fingertips. It can be very hot in February and they do run a fan / temp control machine to help keep the sweltering temps down, but it is hot, which is part of the whole bush experience. And there's a plunge pool 10 steps away to cool down. We had great service, really good food and the game viewing was really special. The time of year meant that the foliage is very thick so you really need to look for your game, but we were well rewarded by views of cheetah and rhinos, a lovely herd of elephants and many incredibly beautiful species of antelope. It was an unforgettable experience and we loved every minute of it. My husband and I are well-traveled with regards to game lodges in Southern Africa. This lodge doesn't have the Big 5, but for us that wasn't a problem as we have been blessed to enjoy that many times elsewhere. However, the overall lodge experience was great and we were..

We came for our honeymoon from the 3rd of August to the 5th and it was just fabulous! We had room 1 and the tent, the staff down to the food everything was perfect. I wish we could have stayed longer. tents were also cleaned and heated at night, food was excellent and very tasty, and the staff very professional and friendly at all times. Thank you to the whole staff you made our stay unforgettable! Vusi was the best ranger ever! you could ask him anything, he knew everything! It was really a lot of fun going on safari´s with him, he has a great sense of humor, and I really felt welcomed and there are no words to express how hard it was to leave this paradise. The other rangers were also very friendly and always there if you asked any questions. Thank you to Kevin as well for going on a bush walk with us. All in all, thank you once more to the whole staff! We will never forget our honeymoon and we will definitely come back!

We stayed for 2 nights in this magnificent place. The "tents" were fantastic, food was perfect, the landscapes in Nkomazi are really amazing. Safari-experience is really great with rangers that take all the time to show you everything, also the smaller things.A "must visit" and a "must return to"!
