South Africa; Cape Town, 12 October 2023; The much-anticipated The Hazendal has officially opened its doors following a ribbon cutting ceremony held earlier today.
Situated in the grounds of the expansive Hazendal Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, The Hazendal combines striking modern design elements with historical Cape Dutch architecture to create a lavish new Cape Winelands accommodation establishment. The hotel’s exterior is clean, minimalist, and attractive, making use of traditional whites, blacks, and charcoals to blend in with the existing estate architecture. Juxtaposing the austerity of these colours is an interior featuring bright artworks, natural sky lights, and an oasis of indoor flower beds.
Each of The Hazendal’s 34 rooms have been individually decorated and stocked with every modern convenience. Original artworks curated by the inhouse Marvol Gallery showcase a variety of up and coming South African talent. In every room you can expect to find Smart TVs, pod coffee machines, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, and Africology bath products. Rooms can be set up in twin or king configuration.
31 beautifully appointed Superior and Luxury Rooms open onto patios furnished with comfortable modern swing chairs. Each room has a view of the pool deck or the majestic Stellenbosch mountains. The two spacious suites boast private jacuzzis.
The pierce-de-resistance is The Hazendal’s 122 sqm Presidential Suite. Decorated with plush couches, velvet upholstered chairs, and vintage-style carpets, the grandeur of the suite’s lounge and dining room is further enhanced by wood paneled walls and gleaming contemporary chandeliers. A king-size bed looks across a lake flanked by the Bottelary Hills and Simonsig Mountain Range. The deck features a patio lounge set and its own private jacuzzi.
The Hazendal’s shady central courtyard forms the heart of the property. This area boasts a heated swimming pool and stylish pergolas that will offer a relaxed and sophisticated space to soak up the Wineland’s sunshine during your stay.
The Spa
The new spa at The Hazendal seamlessly integrates historical farm buildings and modern extensions with double volume ceilings and high glass windows. The interior is cleverly decorated with neutral colours and textured fabrics to create a serene atmosphere that lends itself to relaxation. Indulge in pampering treatments including massages, facials, and detox treatments in the single and couple treatment rooms. There is also a fully equipped nail studio, a Hammam area, and a lakeside treatment pod.
The Restaurant
The Restaurant, located next to The Hazendal’s courtyard, also opens its doors this month. Under the direction of the estate’s Executive Chef Michelle Theron, this new establishment will complete the vast food and beverage offerings already available at Hazendal Wine Estate. At present The Deli offers delectable pastries, baked goods, and a tapas style menu while The Eatery serves grills and relaxed country fare. The Restaurant will complement these offerings with a refined menu where meals will be served below the shimmering chandeliers in this beautiful new dining area.
The Bar and Cigar Lounge
A stately bar, situated adjacent to the golf course, has also opened at The Hazendal. Here you can enjoy mountain views while sampling Hazendal’s fine wines, the estate’s own range of vodka, and its signature cocktails. An opulent cigar lounge furnished with leather couches and botanical-style wallpaer is situated next to the bar.
The Hazendal completes the estate offering
Director of Hazendal Wine Estate, Simone Voloshin, explains that in the eight years since the Voloshin family started their extensive renovation and developed of Hazendal Wine Estate, it had become apparent that a luxury hotel, located on the grounds of the estate, was needed to complete the property experience.
“As our wedding, conference and event bookings picked up, guests kept asking us where they could find a nearby hotel of a similar standard to the 5-star offerings available at our estate.
It was clear that there was demand and that a hotel would be the key to tie our various offerings together. Hazendal’s unique way of blending modern style, technology, and heritage as well as the vastness of our experiential offerings means that it is hard to find any attraction, experience or hospitality offering remotely like what we offer here,” said Voloshin.
She added that the estate’s offering had evolved to the point where it was no longer a day trip destination and should instead be experienced over at least two days. In addition to the The Hazendal, The Spa, and the various estate eateries, the estate’s facilities include a wine tasting lounge, a Par three 18-hole golf course, a putting park, a driving range, a golf academy, a padel court, a state-of-the-art children’s edutainment centre, a classic car collection, an art gallery, a conference centre, and various wedding and function venues.
“As a mother I always look for hotels that have experiences that my children will enjoy because this means that the whole family can have a good time. I feel that The Hazendal, which welcomes children of all ages, has done this very well. The hotel has been designed to accommodate families in 24 interleading rooms. There is a children’s swimming pool, and a screen room for movie nights with a couple of arcade machines. The estate’s gardens and landscaped water features are a wonderland for children to explore, the deli has perfected family picnics and the state-of-the-art Wonderdal Centre is one of the most interactive technologically advanced children’s edutainment centres in the country,” added Voloshin.
Hazendal Wine Estate is managed by Newmark Hotels & Reserves. The hospitality management company’s portfolio consists of 23 properties including a large footprint of upmarket hotels in central Cape Town, game lodges and a variety of resort establishments dotted through Africa and the Indian Ocean islands.
“In more than 15 years since Newmark was founded, we have been on the lookout for the right property in the Cape Winelands to partner with. Hazendal Wine Estate, and The Hazendal, complements our offering perfectly and allows Newmark guests to extend their Cape Town stay and see more of South Africa with a visit to the Winelands,” said CEO of Newmark Hotels & Reserves, Neil Markovitz.
