Sustainable practices at Future Found Sanctuary

As South Africa’s first and only 5-star regenerative travel destination, Future Found Sanctuary is committed its sustainable practices to leave a positive rather than a negative impact on its environment and the surrounding community in Hout Bay.
Through our mindful initiatives, we can mitigate negative environmental and social impacts associated with tourism.
Here are some of our current green initiatives:
Garden to Plate: Our Food Philosophy
At Future Found Sanctuary, the focus is on wellness. We grow our veggies and herbs onsite in over 30 veggie boxes and use as many ingredients from the garden as possible in creating delectable dishes.
“We use mainly organic and aquaponic suppliers and farmers that supply regenerative farming. We also harvest and maintain our own bee hives! Our golden honey is a true healing elixir from nature and our little black and yellow helper bees,” says the hotel’s general manager.
Being so close to Table Mountain, our chefs can forage in the hills of the mountain for fresh ingredients, often used in the meals that are prepared that day. Ingredients are picked on the day to ensure fresh flavour and minimal wastage
Wholesome Fish and Meat
Staying true to our healthy kitchen mission, we adhere to SASSI sustainability policies when procuring fish, which we source from our local harbour in Hout Bay. As for the beef items on our menu, guests can rest assured that our beef is sourced from Farmer Angus—hormone-free and antibiotic-free—leaving you with only goodness and deliciousness!
Reducing Waste
Organic waste from the kitchens, gardens offices and guest rooms is repurposed into our compost piles and worm gardens at Future Found Sanctuary. All the green off-cuts, old brown branches and leaves make the perfect foundation for composting. We have bins in each guest room that are labelled “for recycling” and we have changed all plastic bottles to glass.
Local Wines and Teas
Wine lovers will be happy to know that all our wines are from local SA farmers and wine makers. We support female winemakers in the region. Our tea selection also contains predominantly locally grown ingredients.
Water and Conservation
Looking after nature’s abundant gifts is of utmost importance to us. Maintaining clean gardens and sticking to nature’s recipes are some of the notable ways that we look after the diverse wildlife and flora nestled beneath Table Mountain.
We only use underground water supplies and rivers that we run through recycled filtration systems. We recently installed a water fountain that draws from our underground water.
Community Nurturing
Community at Future Found Sanctuary starts in-house. Yoga is offered to staff, run by the managers on the ground. We also support as many local Hout Bay businesses as possible.
