Newmark welcomes luxury private game reserve to its prestigious hospitality portfolio
Posted on: 4 March 2019
Cape Town, 04 March 2019 – Newmark Hotels, Residences, Reserves & Lodges is pleased to officially announce the introduction of Mount Camdeboo Private Game Reserve, a 14 000-hectare reserve located in South Africa’s striking Great Karoo region, to its hospitality portfolio. Newmark will take the reins in managing the property, working side by side with Mount Camdeboo, effective 01 May 2019.
Pioneered by Neil Markovitz, who was involved with the establishment of the iconic Victoria & Alfred Hotel in Cape Town, Newmark owns and/or manages various properties spread out across Southern and East Africa, offering comprehensive hospitality management services to each property within its growing portfolio. Including Mount Camdeboo, the group now comprises seventeen properties, with another seven in design and construction phase.
Comments Neil Markovitz, Managing Director at Newmark: “The Newmark business model allows properties to remain true to their identity, to celebrate and showcase their unique characteristics, while being powered by the strength, positive reputation and unified force of the Newmark brand. Mount Camdeboo boasts a number of truly remarkable features that set it apart as a highly sought-after safari destination, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to include this property under the Newmark wing.”
Mount Camdeboo is privately owned, having been purchased by the late Logie Buchanan and his wife, Cathy in 1996. Their son, Iain and the Buchanan family have poured much love and dedication into developing this property over the years from agricultural farm land into a pristine game reserve in line with the vision to conserve the land and provide a natural habitat where wildlife, including endangered species, are able to roam freely. This will soon be classified Big Five terrain as plans are in place to introduce lion and elephant to the reserve in upcoming months as part of Mount Camdeboo’s conservation efforts.
Surrounded by the Sneeuberg Mountain Range, Mount Camdeboo features sweeping landscapes and mesmerising backdrops which create an unparalleled setting for game viewing in the heart of the malaria-free Great Karoo region. Here, guests are also able to enjoy memorable experiences such as scenic helicopter flights, game walks, cheetah tracking and stargazing.
The reserve further affords guests easy access to a range of attractions as it is set in proximity to the historical town of Graaff-Reinet where Drostdy Hotel – part of Newmark’s luxury hotel portfolio – is set, Nieu Bethesda and the breathtaking Valley of Desolation. This means that travellers, including those looking to venture off the beaten track, can easily enjoy combined travel experiences, from safaris to the discovery of historical gems.
The accommodation offering at Mount Camdeboo is equally impressive and comprises:
Camdeboo Manor – A stunning manor that dates back to the early 1800s and comprises two en-suite bedrooms with a king-size bed in each and two en-suite bedrooms with two single beds in each, a dining room with a fireplace, a secluded courtyard and a generously sized swimming pool.
Peppertree Cottage – A spacious cottage privately located in Camdeboo Manor’s gardens that sleeps two and features a king-size bed, an en-suite bathroom, a kitchenette, a fireplace and a private garden.
Hillside Manor – A modernised mountain retreat, for exclusive use, that dates back to the 1900s and comprises three en-suite bedrooms, one with a king-size bed and two with a queen-size bed in each. This manor further features a full-sized swimming pool.
Courtyard Manor – A double gabled homestead wrapped in a veranda that dates back to the late 1700s and comprises four en-suite bedrooms, three with a king-size bed in each and one with two single beds. This manor likewise features a full-sized swimming pool.
Safari Tents – Two luxurious tents, raised on wooden decks and overlooking the seasonal Melk River, that each feature a queen-size bed, an en-suite bathroom (shower and WC) and a spacious deck with outdoor furniture.
Comments Iain Buchanan, Family Representative for Mount Camdeboo: “We are incredibly excited for this new season that Mount Camdeboo and Newmark are entering. We believe that this new relationship will take us to new heights and help with establishing Mount Camdeboo and this region in offering a truly unique safari experience and so much more.”
