Mystik Lifestyle Boutique Hotel: Refreshed with a Designer Twist
Posted on: 27 June 2025 Written by: Jo-Ann Florens Lacoste

The newly refreshed Mystik Lifestyle Boutique Hotel has always had a certain magnetism—barefoot, breezy, and effortlessly chic. Now, with a thoughtfully executed refurbishment by South African interior designer François du Plessis—the creative force behind the look and feel of several Newmark properties—it enters a new era: same soul, just with crisper linens, sleeker lines, and a healthy dose of Newmark polish.

Set on the northwestern coast of Mauritius, in Mont Choisy, Mystik remains a quietly confident address: less about fuss, more about feeling. Think: waking up to the sound of the sea, a casuarina-scented breeze drifting through billowing white curtains, and cocktails timed to the sunset.
A Stylish Overhaul (Without Losing the Plot)

Since joining the Newmark Hotels & Reserves collection in 2022, Mystik has subtly evolved. Under the expert eye of du Plessis, the rooms—once beachy in a literal sense—have taken on a new sophistication. Still pared-back and island-inspired, but now with cool white tones, woven textures, and pops of saturated colour. It’s all very “I’ve just stepped into my dream Pinterest board,” with none of the pretension.
The soul of the hotel—intimate, relaxed, resolutely unflashy—remains intact. Only now, it hums with the quiet confidence of a hotel that knows exactly who it is.
Island Dining, Done Differently

If there were ever a place to linger over lunch in your swimsuit, it’s #36 Beach Resto Bar. The décor is all sun-bleached wood and contemporary accents, with a sea view that’s frankly ridiculous. The menu has taken a modern turn too: expect dishes like smoked marlin panini, Mystik caprese salad, and a green pea risotto that would hold its own in any city bistro.
Dinner dips into island indulgence—Mauritian shrimp curry, grilled seafood, and spiced chicken dishes that warm from the inside out. Dessert? Try the coconut panna cotta or the glossy chocolate sphere, if you’re feeling dramatic. (And you should.)

The SkyBar remains the place to be for sundowners—fresh fruit cocktails, icy rosé, or whatever the barman’s feeling inspired to shake up that evening.
The Art of Staying Put (Or Not)

Yes, the hotel is perfectly placed for exploring—golf, snorkelling, catamaran sails, and the easy rhythm of Mont Choisy’s coastal life are all close by. But Mystik’s new glow-up makes it extremely difficult to leave.
Especially if you book the Sunset Indulgence Package: a romantic two-night stay with a bottle of wine waiting in your room, an upgrade thrown in for good measure, a candlelit dinner by the beach, and a cocktail masterclass (because who doesn’t want to know how to shake the perfect rum punch?).
This isn’t your cookie-cutter resort stay. It’s laid-back island living—with just the right amount of gloss.
