Mandela Day at Newmark
Posted on: 19 May 2022
Nelson Mandela International Day has enjoyed 10 years of global support and solidarity since it was launched in 2009. This year the Nelson Mandela Foundation has launched a new Mandela Day strategy, titled: Mandela Day: The Next Chapter, to mark the tenth anniversary.
Newmark employees took the initiative to collect food and clothing over a month’s period in order to donate it to an individual in need or a charity organisation, in alignment with this momentous day.
Newmark’s designated Social Committee members made their first stop at Lyn Ross’s house, a single mother of three, whom recently become jobless, leaving her with no means to support her family. Lyn was nominated by one of our internal employees as someone who could use a helping hand. We assisted her with various non-perishable food items in order to help feed her family. It was wonderful to see the smile and slight relief on Lyn’s face as we handed over the parcel.
Our final stop was to St. Anne’s Homes. This is a non-government organisation who offer various services to abused, destitute and pregnant mothers and their young children throughout South Africa. The Newmark team dropped off the boxes of clothing and then had the privilege of taking a tour through the facility and getting to play with some of the children. It was heartwarming to hold these beautiful children and to know that while staying at St. Anne’s Homes they have a roof over their heads.
