Stargazing at Nkomazi Private Game Reserve
Take in the night-sky wonders, best enjoyed in winter.
What to expect
Treat yourself to an informative stargazing session, led by our “star rangers”, and the chance to get a closer look at celestial bodies through the reserve’s Celestron telescope. The air in the Nkomazi region is clean and there is very little unnatural light to compete with the brightness of the stars, making the night sky truly spectacular. This breathtaking experience is best enjoyed during winter as skies are most clear during the cooler months.
Stargazing has become a new healthy travel trend, empowering more rural communities. Often called astro-tourism, stargazing has become a popular box-check in travel searches. The theory is that after the pandemic hit – with numerous lockdown regulations – people are more keen to feel a sense of space outside of their four walls. The term "starbathing", which has also become a growing trend, simply means spending time under the stars and appreciating their beauty. It’s a celebration of the natural night time and helps to promote mindfulness, calm, and help us be in the present moment.
Our beautiful starry skies can be viewed from the privacy of your own deck or simply enquire at reception during your stay at Nkomazi Private Game Reserve about the telescope and a guided experience.
