Marion Geiger-Orengo is an experienced, passionate artist who has brought her love for art into the wild for an experience that is sure to be enriching for all of Motswari’s visitors. Marion has lectured at Cape Technikon in Cape Town and the Chicago Academy for Arts the USA. She also hosted art workshops in Germany.
These days, Marion is content working from her two studios in Cape Town and Motswari, but she admits to having a special affinity for being immersed in nature.
Conversations With Nature
Marion spends much of her time sketching her encounters with wildlife, as she says nature helps her to feel connected artistically. Her sketches are translated back onto canvas in her bush studio with artistic flair and creative expression that draws viewers into each painting. She likes to call her work “painting conversations with nature.”
“I paint feverishly—without stopping or stepping back from the canvas—until I have covered at least half of the surface with paint. I try to create a strong emotional moment, sometimes intimate and private, at other times evocative and powerful,” says Marion.
Art for Awareness
The word Motswari means ‘to conserve and protect’ in Tswana. Marion leads the reserve with this in mind and draws on the power of art to transcend boundaries, using her art to create conservation awareness.
Rhino Disharmony is an ongoing campaign run by Marion and the Motswari team to create awareness about illegal wild-animal trade using artistic ambassadors. Putting her passion for art to good use, Marion collaborates with artists, photographers, musicians, filmmakers and other creatives to further this cause.
Come For the Safari, Be Inspired by the Art
Guests at Motswari Private Game Reserve are invited to view a collection of Marion’s art at the main Motswari camp and Gieger’s camp. In addition to displays around the camps, more of her local art can be seen at the Gieger’s Camp Art Gallery.
