Dock House Boutique Hotel Reopens Following Thoughtful Refurbishment

Cape Town, 3 November 2025 – Dock House Boutique Hotel, Newmark Hotels & Reserves’ beautifully restored heritage building that originally served as the Harbour Master’s residence in the 1800s, has officially reopened following a thoughtful refurbishment. The property closed temporarily on 11 August and reopened on 29 September with refreshed interiors by interior designer François du Plessis, reimagined for contemporary comfort while preserving its historic elegance.
Located in the historic Portswood Ridge precinct of Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, beside the Time Ball Tower, Dock House Boutique Hotel has long been celebrated for its quiet exclusivity and heritage charm. The recent refurbishment enhances that legacy with renewed interiors, bespoke furnishings, and a heightened sense of poise and character across the hotel’s six luxurious accommodations — five Luxury Rooms and one Luxury Suite.
Three of the four upstairs Luxury Rooms feature private balconies with views over the bustling harbour, while the ground-floor Luxury Room opens onto a shaded verandah overlooking the green lawns and swimming pool. The hotel’s signature Luxury Suite, also on the ground floor, is particularly glamorous, opening onto a private courtyard garden with a quiet alfresco nook — perfect for slow, unhurried mornings.
“Dock House has always been a jewel within the Waterfront precinct — intimate, sophisticated, and steeped in history,” says Neil Markovitz, CEO of Newmark Hotels & Reserves. “This refurbishment celebrates its heritage while ensuring it continues to meet the expectations of the modern traveller seeking privacy, beauty, and a sense of place.”
Beyond its accommodation, guests can enjoy a range of facilities, including a fully equipped gym, a pristine swimming pool with views of Table Mountain, and the adjacent Sanctuary Spa which offers world-class treatments and its signature Tylaruim — a “soft sauna” that blends the benefits of a traditional sauna and a gentle steam bath.
Dining is easily accessible through two acclaimed Newmark restaurants, both known for their seasonal menus and within walking distance of the hotel. GINJA, located on the water’s edge at the Victoria & Alfred Hotel, offers contemporary dining with views across the harbour. The award-winning Terrarium by Chris Erasmus, at the Queen Victoria Hotel, presents an edgy, hyper-local fine-dining experience founded on a seasonal, farm-to-table ethos, with Fauna and Flora tasting menus complemented by a remarkable wine list.

With its recent refurbishment complete, Dock House Boutique Hotel reaffirms its position as one of Cape Town’s most distinctive and boutique addresses. Its elegant gardens, timeless architecture, and views of Table Mountain also make it an ideal setting for intimate weddings and exclusive events.
