This is a one-of-a-kind experience of the local life in Cape Town’s most colourful neighbourhood. Tour guide, Zainie is a local celebrity – she has lived in the region all her life, knows every resident and will tell you everything about the history, traditions and culture of the area.

This is an opportunity to walk the streets of the Bo-Kaap, shop at the local corner store, to learn secret family recipes at Zainie’s home and to gain insight into the daily life of the Cape Malay community.

About the Guide

Zainie Misbach is a Bo-Kaap local with strong community ties and a passion for preserving the Cape Malay culture. She has over 30 years’ experience in preparing Cape Malay cuisine and has been involved in numerous initiatives to showcase the Cape Malay culture through food, from the very first Cape Malay Restaurant in South Africa (Biesmiellah Restaurant) to the most well-renowned, Noon Gun Restaurant.
